An early start to fire season in NSW, as a sweltering summer is predicted.

In Australia, we’ve come to expect extreme weather. This year our farmers faced the wrath of one of our country’s longest and most destructive droughts. Not since 1965 has NSW seen so little rain.

Sadly, the bad news continues, as early predictions are forecasting a sweltering summer ahead, forcing an early start to fire season in NSW.

How can you prepare for fire season?

According to the NSW Rural Fire Service website, every homeowner and business can prepare for fire season by limiting the dangers on their property.

1. Trim overhanging trees and shrubs.
2. Mow your lawn and remove all cut grass.
3. Remove material that can burn around your property (e.g. door mats, woodpiles, mulch, leaves, outdoor furniture).
4. Clear and remove the debris from the gutters surrounding your home.
5. Prepare a hose, or hoses, that can stretch around the building.

Businesses and homeowners should take extra precaution ahead of what’s predicted to be a long and hot summer. By doing so, you will be limiting your risk.
